5 Key Bathroom Mistakes and How to Fix Them — PART 2

A hotel bathroom plays a crucial role in ensuring guest comfort and satisfaction. However, many bathrooms suffer from common functional issues that can seriously affect the user experience and lead to negative reviews!

In this second part of the article, we explore five more essential mistakes frequently found in hotel bathrooms and offer practical, effective solutions to address them — transforming the space into one that combines comfort, ergonomics, and great aesthetics.

Inadequate Ventilation

Mistake: Poor ventilation or the absence of a bathroom window causes moisture, steam, and unpleasant odors to accumulate. This trapped humidity gradually damages bathroom furniture, false ceilings, and corrodes metal fixtures.

Solution: Prioritize natural ventilation by installing an opening window. Even a small blind window with a screen in a light well is better than relying solely on mechanical ventilation.
If that’s not possible, install a high-performance ventilation system with a timer, motion sensor, and humidity sensor. If ventilation is still insufficient, place a dehumidifier just outside the bathroom for extra support.

Insufficient Soundproofing

Mistake: Thin walls, floor panels, and drywall without insulation, as well as low-quality doors, allow noise transfer from neighboring rooms or common areas, carrying voices, conversations, and even the sound of plumbing.

Solution: We invest in internal soundproofing materials such as rock wool, moisture-resistant double-layer drywall, and the ceiling. We place dense materials on the walls and add sound-absorbing panels at strategic points, such as behind the mirror, sink, and bathroom ceiling.
We carefully seal joints and small openings by applying silicone and special tapes to prevent the transmission of vibrations and sound

Inappropriate Materials that Degrade from Moisture

Mistake: Countertops, bathroom furniture, and shelves made from MDF, particleboard, or other materials that are not moisture-resistant, which rot or warp, creating an unpleasant, abandoned look in the bathroom and leaving a negative impression of the hospitality business.

Solution: We choose materials with a solid core, such as compact moisture-resistant MDF or synthetic bakelite for bathroom furniture, combined with a countertop made of marble or tiles.
We use stainless steel fittings that withstand moisture, such as handles, hooks, and hangers, and treat wooden surfaces with waterproof varnishes, such as wooden stools, shelves, and custom-made sink countertops.

Lack of Storage Space and Sufficient Countertop

Mistake: The minimalist design often leads to impractical bathrooms, as the focus is placed more on the sink than on the countertop and storage solutions. Guests frequently struggle to find enough space to place their personal items, resulting in a cluttered bathroom.

Solution: We create ample surface space around the sink using waterproof materials, increasing the functional area within the bathroom. If space is limited, the best solution is to integrate the sink into the countertop, using poured materials like Corian, or constructing it from moisture-resistant drywall with a tile finish.
To enhance storage, we build recessed areas in the wall or add stainless steel hooks and hangers near the shower and mirror. To maintain an organized bathroom, we add shelves beneath the sink countertop or design a backing on the bathroom furniture for guests to place their cosmetics.

Poor Lighting – Incorrect Positions and Intensity

Mistake: Lighting fixtures do not allow users to adjust them to their preference, being either on or off. Often, they are placed in the wrong positions, creating shadows or excessive brightness, which makes it difficult to use the mirror for tasks like makeup application or shaving.

Solution: The most efficient lighting solution is a combination of direct and indirect lighting. We install LED lights around the mirror for even, concealed lighting, and add adjustable lighting with a dimmer to control the intensity. Allowing the choice between warm and cool lighting based on the guest’s preference ensures both relaxation and grooming. Additionally, we place spotlights in strategic areas, such as above the shower or near the toilet, to provide full coverage of the space or install hidden ceiling lighting within a special trim in the gypsum ceiling. By applying the right improvements, a hotel bathroom can be transformed into a pleasant and functional space, enhancing the guest experience and the business's image.

Focus on the right choice of materials, ventilation, soundproofing, and lighting, and transform your bathroom to ensure positive reviews for the attention you’ve paid to detail and ergonomics!
