In the new post-COVID travel era, the design of hotel rooms has evolved, even affecting the most overlooked piece of furniture in the room: the hotel wardrobe!

As travelers once again spend time in lobbies, outdoor seating areas, or outside the hotel instead of staying in their rooms, hotels are striving to reduce the available square footage of rooms by eliminating unnecessary furniture and implementing an inviting interior design.

While the trend in the hospitality industry may dictate smaller rooms, the real demand from travelers is for more spacious and comfortable rooms, free of obstacles and bulky furniture. The hotel wardrobe, a key piece of furniture in any hotel room, is starting to be upgraded!

It is no longer just a storage space for extra suitcases, sports bags, clothes, and children's gear, but a crucial element that enhances the hospitality experience by combining ergonomics and luxury.

Are you planning a Hotel Wardrobe Renovation? Get inspired by the 4 new solutions that will shape the future!

  • Closed wardrobe with glass or mirror
  • Walk-in wardrobe
  •  Open wardrobe with product display
  • Free-standing furniture or as a room divider

1. Closed Wardrobe with Glass or Mirror

The closed wardrobe with glass or mirrored doors offers a stylish storage solution that replaces the solid melamine doors of traditional hotel wardrobes. The glass or mirror is installed on sliding doors but can also be used alternatively as "walls" to create the impression of a walk-in closet, enhancing the brightness and the illusion of a larger space within the hotel room. When renovating a hotel wardrobe with glass or mirror, I recommend minimizing the thickness of the frames that hold the glass or mirror to achieve a clean, minimal aesthetic, which further enhances the sense of spaciousness in the hotel room.

In this wardrobe renovation solution, the aesthetic effect is truly elevated when you incorporate LED lighting, illuminating the adjustable shelves, rails, and drawers inside the wardrobe, making the entire piece glow elegantly! However, caution is necessary! When renovating a hotel wardrobe using glass, since the entire interior of the wardrobe is visually exposed, you should choose melamine for the shelves and drawers with detailed finishes, ensuring a luxurious result!

 2. Wardrobe as a Walk-In Closet

Renovating a hotel wardrobe into a walk-in closet involves creating a standalone, freestanding structure anywhere in the room or just before the bathroom entrance, effectively replacing the traditional built-in wardrobe. This wardrobe renovation solution is ideal for villas and resorts, but in a scaled-down version, it can also be applied in smaller hotel rooms as a transitional space before the bathroom. The key focus should be on detailed construction and the use of luxurious materials.

This solution involves creating an enclosed space filled with shelves, drawers, hanging rods, and clothing rails, placing a full-length mirror and an ottoman in the center. Our goal is to highlight both luxury and ergonomics, which is why we select high-quality materials, combining wood, melamine, treated metals, glass, or mirrors. If you are planning a hotel wardrobe renovation, choose this solution as it adds significant value to the room interiors, making the rooms more appealing to guests, leading to better reviews and higher occupancy rates.

 3. Open Wardrobe with Product Promotion

The third hotel wardrobe renovation solution is the open wardrobe, which embraces a modern, minimalist approach to storage! Open wardrobes feature hanging rods, hooks, shelves, and minimal drawers, with no doors, making it easier for guests to access their belongings.

n this open wardrobe design, we include space for storing suitcases and travel bags, primarily at the bottom, and add a mirror for guests to check their appearance, combining practicality with aesthetics. A great approach to renovating a hotel wardrobe is to position the open wardrobe in a corner of the room, allowing guests to hide or reveal the storage space by using a curtain on a rail, in a pattern and color that aligns with your hotel’s concept. For added elegance and originality, I recommend using metal curtains—metal rings woven together like fabric, adding movement and shine to the room's interior!

Since the open wardrobe lacks a back or doors, we can incorporate a mini-bar and coffee set while showcasing exclusive services and products. This approach allows the hotel to generate an additional revenue stream. These could be branded clothing, accessories, or travel items displayed in the open wardrobe, laundry and dry-cleaning services advertised with brochures or digital screens, or personalized offerings such as spa treatments, massages, pool services, and meals. Guests are more likely to use these services when they are visible as part of the room's layout rather than hidden away in drawers or closets.

 4. Freestanding Furniture and Shelving as a Room Divider

In the fourth wardrobe renovation solution, we move away from the traditional hotel wardrobe and introduce a concept that combines independent pieces of furniture or even incorporates a room divider. This approach adds a unique design element that can enhance the guest experience, presenting a design-forward concept.

Instead of centralized storage areas, shelves, and hangers, we choose different pieces of furniture and arrange them throughout the room. In this distinctive wardrobe concept, we deconstruct the wardrobe and use consoles, floor mirrors, rattan-covered furniture, or flexible partitions that separate the room into sleeping and sitting or working areas.

We integrate modular elements, including hanging rods, shelves, and open storage spaces alongside closed furniture. We install open or semi-open shelves that can be used to display decorative items, books, or hotel-branded products, enhancing the room's aesthetic.

The deconstructed wardrobe harmoniously blends freestanding metal hangers with wooden furniture, maintaining the repetition of similar materials throughout the room, achieving a cohesive composition rather than a random collection of ideas. Which of these wardrobe renovation ideas will you apply based on your hotel concept?
